A UNIQUE NATURAL PARK

Located in the Tropic of Cancer on the Baja California Sur peninsula, Cabo Pulmo is a unique coral reef ecosystem in the Gulf of California.

In 1995, it was declared a Natural Protected Area, under the category of National Marine Park, with the purpose of preserving the balance of its ecosystem and the life of many species that were at risk for the effect caused by overfishing and environmental damage.

The project brought together government entities and the local community; families with a fishing tradition who for many years had fishing as their main source of income, and who little by little found a new motivation and source of income in tourism.

Since then, fish populations have increased by more than 400%. More than 200 species of fish, invertebrates, marine mammals and many birds reside here. The peninsula is also visited in winter by different species of whales, dolphins, mobulas and even orcas!

The area of the MPA is 7.11 hectares, and there are more than 20 diving and snorkeling sites, each one with its own maximum capacity of divers to prevent deterioration.

Cabo Pulmo is currently recognized as one of the best diving destinations in Mexico and Latin America, attracting travelers from all over the world all year around. Here it is possible to dive with bull sharks, submerge yourself in endless schools of jacks and interact with huge species of fish like groupers, snappers and many more.
